Water from the Lagoon flows into Frombork. The fight for the port and buildings continues

Firefighters place sandbags along Portowa Street in Frombork. Water from the Vistula Lagoon is seeping in, the fire brigade told PAP. The police issued recommendations to residents, asking, among others: to stay at home and to remove cars from areas at risk of flooding.

Spokesman of the Warmian-Masurian Fire Department, Junior Brig. Grzegorz Różański informed PAP that firefighters from Braniewo and representatives of municipal services are fighting against the waters of the Vistula Lagoon in Frombork. Sandbags are placed along Portowa Street. Firefighters fight, among others: o the captain's office building and a catering point.

There are high waves on the Vistula Lagoon. Additionally, water is pushed onto land by the north wind through the Copernicus Canal – this is a remnant of the medieval system supplying water to Frombork. In the square at ul. Portowa, among others the city is building graduation towers.

The police from Braniewo issued an appeal to the residents of Frombork. It asked those who did not need to go out to stay at home. Properties located in the lower part of the city should be secured – these include basements and garages. The police also asked for cars to be moved from areas at risk of flooding.

Water from the Vistula Lagoon also flows over the port quay in Suchacz. The spokesman for the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Szymon Tarasewicz, told PAP that there was false information about the flooding of the sewage pumping station in the village of Janówek.

There are very difficult weather conditions in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship on Tuesday. There are snowstorms with strong winds. Tarasewicz informed that currently 120 households do not have electricity. Failures are removed on an ongoing basis.

Even though plows and gritters are working on all roads in the region, road conditions are very difficult. There are snowdrifts in places and cars cannot drive up hills. (PAP)
