Andrzej Poczobut with the Order of the White Eagle. President Nawrocki: Poland does not forget


President Karol Nawrocki emphasized that the decoration is of particular importance for Poland and the entire Republic of Poland. In his opinion, the decision to award the Order of the White Eagle is an expression of solidarity with Poles abroad.

This distinction is an expression of recognition for his courage and steadfastness in the fight for values ​​that he considers fundamental. Poczobut has been in a Belarusian prison for two years, sentenced to eight years in a high-security penal colony.

Karol Nawrocki drew attention to the steadfastness of Poczobut, who, despite repression, did not leave Belarus, choosing prison to defend his values. — Even though he didn't deserve it, he chose prison. He did not leave Belarus, fighting for the values ​​that were important to him – said Nawrocki.

Andrzej Poczobut was detained in March 2021 and in February this year sentenced by the Belarusian justice system for “activities harmful to the interests of the state”. The verdict included, among others: his statements about the USSR's aggression against Poland in 1939 and publications documenting protests in Belarus in 2020. He is currently in the penal colony in Nowopołock.

Just over a month ago, on September 11, after talks with a delegation linked to the US presidential administration, Alexander Lukashenko released 52 political prisoners from prison. Among those released were three Poles and eight Belsat TV collaborators. However, Andrzej Poczobut was not included in this gesture. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is still taking steps to ensure his release.
