VI Siberian Festival of Contemporary Music starts in Krasnoyarsk

Today in Krasnoyarsk the grand opening of the VI Siberian Festival of Contemporary Music will take place. On November 7, the National Theater of the Republic of Tyva will perform on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater with the musical “Legend of the Winds.” The production is based on folk tales about the hero of the Tuvan epic.

On November 8, the official opening of the festival will take place at the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic. The Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Lande will take the stage. The program includes works by contemporary composers from Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, Yakutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ulaanbaatar, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

A musical fairy tale “Marya Morevna” is planned for children on November 16 in the small hall of the Philharmonic. It will be read by People's Artist Natalya Goryacheva to the accompaniment of a symphony orchestra. Some numbers from the production have already been performed by orchestras in Russia and Belarus.

On November 11, the Organ Hall will host a performance by the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Choir under the direction of Ekaterina Baulina, and on November 21 and 22 there will be concerts by the Moscow Ensemble of Contemporary Music (MASM). The group is a laureate of prestigious music competitions and has toured in 30 countries around the world.

Concerts of the Krasnoyarsk Brass and Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestras will be performed at the site of the Siberian State Institute of Arts named after Dmitry Hvorostovsky. They will present a diverse panorama of works created by Krasnoyarsk authors Fyodor Veselkov, Oleg Meremkulov, Oleg Prostitov, Vladimir Ponomarev, Arthur Michel, Vladimir Porotsky, as well as composers from Kyzyl, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude.

The festival will end on November 25 with a performance by the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Russian Orchestra named after Anatoly Bardin under the direction of Valery Shelepov. Works based on folklore, ethnic and epic stories will present listeners with a diverse genre palette from lyrical songs accompanied by folk instruments to classical concert forms.

In addition to the concerts, the festival organizers prepared a rich educational program for the participants. It will cover different sites in the city. Guests will enjoy creative meetings, master classes, round tables and public talks, where musicologists and composers at the federal level will share their knowledge and experience.
