In Russia they want to shorten the summer holidays to two months

6 November 17:50

Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko stated the need to work out a proposal to reduce summer holidays in schools. The publication vse.42.ru writes about this with reference to RIA Novosti.

In this way, the academician responded to the words of the Commissioner for Children's Rights in Moscow, Olga Yaroslavskaya, who had previously proposed making June an academic month. She believes that at this time schoolchildren can devote themselves to studying creative disciplines.

“Of course, this topic needs to be studied… Considered in conjunction with the workload. The most important thing is what should teachers do: how should they pay for this? After all, we calculate a teacher’s salary on weekdays, not by the number of hours, although they also count,” Gennady Onishchenko commented on the initiative.

Also, the Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education pointed out additional organizational difficulties and recalled that in the summer, many schools traditionally carry out repair work. However, he still did not say a categorical “no”.

“We will not say yes or no to this initiative; it must be worked out accordingly and a solution must be found. For some classes it is possible to reduce vacations, but for some – definitely not. In any case, I wouldn’t do this for elementary school,” the academician concluded.

Let us recall that earlier the deputy chairman of the Saratov Regional Duma, Sergei Ovsyannikov, proposed banning citing foreign agents in school assignments.
