The moment a truck is crushed by a train in the Netherlands. “Better to damage a barrier than to endanger a life”
A rail accident occurred on Thursday, October 30, in the Netherlands, on the route between Utrecht and Den Bosch. According to the images captured by the surveillance cameras, the driver of a truck, after entering the railway, stopped and reversed, while the barriers started to lower. Later, when he tried to leave the railway, the truck was hit head-on by the train.
According to NL Times, following the railway accident, five people were injured, all in the truck. The video was published by ProRail, the Dutch government organization responsible for maintaining and expanding the infrastructure of the national rail network.
The video serves as a warning to truck and bus drivers to be extra careful at railway level crossings, the railway manager said.
“The images show how quickly accidents can happen at a level crossing and are shocking.” forwards ProRail.
“Safety starts with vigilance and making the right choices – especially for heavy vehicles. Better to damage a barrier than put a life in danger. If you get stuck between barriers: keep going through“, ProRail reported.

The accident occurred at around 11:30 a.m., at the Bredestraat crossing. The video shows the truck, starting at the crossing, brake and reverse, apparently to avoid oncoming traffic.
The truck is stuck behind the closing barriers and seconds later is hit by the train.
Around 200 passengers were on the train; they were evacuated and taken to Den Bosch station.
ProRail is investigating the cause of the accident and working on repairs. “The damage to the railway is extremely high,” said the railway manager.
“One kilometer of line must be replaced. Repairs will continue until after the weekend.”
The accident had major consequences for rail traffic on the route between Utrecht and Den Bosch, rail operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) reported.
