The Russian billionaire may lose a third of the investment in Europe and the USA – the media earned in Russia


After moving to Monaco in 2011, the fisherman sent part of his funds to investment in Western assets – from startups in the field of biotechnology to works of art. But for more than ten years he has been constantly conducting trials, and the projects have been developing unsuccessfully, the newspaper writes.

In 2014, the businessman succeeded in $ 600 million wife Elena with a divorce. And a year later, processes began due to investments in art with courts in Monaco, Geneva, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York and Paris. In these cities, he led many years of disputes with the Swiss art dealer Iv Buvier and the Sotheby's auction house. The businessman bought 38 paintings from the dealer, including the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Rene Magritte, Gustav Klimt and other artists. He gave for them, according to his own assessment, about $ 2 billion. Rybolovlev accused Buvier of howling the cost of paintings by $ 1 billion. The court with Sotheby's businessman lost, and the dispute with Buvier was resolved only in 2023.

During this time, Rybolovlev himself was accused of laundering money, fraud, hiding assets and was even detained for one day. Only on March 3, 2025 did the Monaco court abolished criminal charges against Rybolovlev.

Three months later, Rybolovlev began a new court with the American venture fund Apple Tree Partners. The Cayman Island Court registered a lawsuit of the family of a billionaire family. In it, he asks to disband the investment fund in the ATP Life Science Ventures biomedicine in connection with the abuse of the official position and dishonest conduct of business by the general partner of the fund, which acted in the interests of the American doctor Set Harrison. The Rybolovlev side claims that his partner in the fund responsible for management wants to assign 50% of his share in the fund – about $ 1 billion. Fisheries believes that he invested almost $ 2.7 billion in the fund, including $ 800 million since 2022.

In May 2024, Apple Tree filed a lawsuit in Court of Delaware with a request to oblige Rybolovlev’s structure to bring another $ 500 million to the fund. In response, the billionaire appealed to the Cayman Islands, demanding the liquidation of partnerships.

Rybolovlev takes 26th place in the list of Russian billionaires compiled by Forbes. According to the publication, its fortune is $ 6.4 billion.
