In July 2024, the Verkhovna Rada supported in the second reading a law calling for the abolition of daylight saving time. On August 21, the law was sent to President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky for signature.
The author of the draft law was the current speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk. He filed it in 2020 when he was deputy speaker. Then the document was adopted in the first reading, the vote took place in early March 2021 – a few weeks before the transition to daylight saving time, but in general the law was not voted on and returned for revision and repeated second reading. Stefanchuk returned to the idea of canceling the transfer and staying in winter, which he said was natural time for Ukraine, after he became the new chairman of the Rada.
On September 24, 2024, Ukrainian media reported that Zelensky is not going to sign the law.
