Tomahawks for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia? After Trump's conversation with Putin, this is no longer true. Summary of the night

What did Donald Trump say?

US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Budapest most likely within two weeks. Earlier, he had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin. When asked by journalists about the announcement of sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Trump said that the United States needed them and could not reduce its stocks. He thus suggested that he would not sell them to Ukraine. At the same time, he said that this may not be the right time to introduce sanctions against Russia.

What does Congress say about this?

The new U.S. president's turn came a few hours after Senate Republican leader John Thune announced that “the time has come” to adopt the sanctions bill that has been pending for half a year.” Frustrated congressmen from both parties wrote a letter to Trump in which they called on him to “implement his statements regarding providing additional weapons to Ukraine and imposing new sanctions on Russia to persuade the dictator Vladimir Putin for negotiations.

Hungarian security expert Peter Tarjanyi said in an interview with the Nepszava daily that hosting the summit by Hungary is unfavorable from the European Union's perspective.
