Krasnoyarsk animal psychologist explained how to cope with dog stress at the veterinarian

Krasnoyarsk zoopsychologist Viktor Petrov told how dog owners can make visits to the veterinarian and groomer less stressful for their pets. The recommendations were made on air on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda – Krasnoyarsk”.

The specialist emphasized that the key factor is the behavior of the owner himself. The dog subtly senses the emotional state of a person and takes on his anxiety, which aggravates the situation in an unfamiliar environment.

“It happens that when a person goes to the clinic with a dog, he is already worried, nervous, and it accumulates. The dog sees that the owner himself is nervous,” explained Viktor Petrov.

To help the animal adapt, the expert advises introducing it to the clinic in advance. It is necessary to choose an institution near your home and go there several times without the purpose of carrying out procedures – to feed the pet, sit in line and let it get used to the new environment. The same approach is effective before a visit to the groomer.

The animal psychologist paid special attention to the importance of the dog’s general education. The skills of performing basic commands and controlling using a leash, established in everyday life, greatly simplify control over the animal in a stressful situation.
