Ukraine will receive Tomahawk missiles. The Pentagon has prepared plans to transfer weapons

The Pentagon has prepared plans to sell or transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine in the event that US President Donald Trump issues such an order, the American New York Times wrote on Wednesday.

Trump did not rule out the transfer of American Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine and confirmed that the potential sale of these missiles would be the topic of his Friday conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington.

The very fact that Trump is making such threats against Russia, regardless of whether he will follow through on them or not, shows that he is increasingly irritated by Moscow's attitude, the newspaper said. Russia has announced a harsh response if these missiles are transferred to Ukraine.

According to the daily, the Pentagon has already prepared plans to potentially sell or transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine in case Trump makes such a decision. However, transferring these weapons would pose enormous challenges. Ukraine does not have the naval or land-based launchers needed to launch these missiles. Ukraine would need a U.S. military launcher called Typhon to fire the Tomahawks. According to military officials, such a step would bring the US closer to direct confrontation with Russia.

It is also not known how many Tomahawks the US could donate to Ukraine, where the Ukrainians could store them safely, or what effect the use of a limited number of these missiles would have, the newspaper calculated. There are also concerns about a potential escalation of tensions with Russia.

On Tuesday, the Financial Times reported that the United States may donate 20 to 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, which – according to the FT – will not significantly affect the dynamics of the war.
