The scientist draws an alarm signal for the US scientific community.
In his first statements after receiving this year's Nobel Nobel Prize, John Clarke claimed that US President Donald Trump's actions are trying to turn science in the US, raises an extremely “serious” problem, writes Greek press.
The policy of the US president regarding science was mainly translated, after his return to the White House in January, in drastic reductions of financing for research and in dismissals of scientists who worked in various federal agencies.

“This will paralyze a large part of the scientific research in the United States,” John Clark warned in statements for the French press agency, adding that they know people who are already experiencing major reductions.
The British researcher, 83 years old, who found out yesterday that the Nobel Prize for Physics was given to him and two other colleagues for their discoveries in the field of quantum mechanics, stressed that they have benefited a huge public funding and public resources in their work for almost four decades.
“It will be catastrophic if this continues,” John Clark insisted, who works at the University of California, Berkeley. “If we assume that the current administration will eventually leave, it could take a decade to get back to the level six months ago,” he continued, adding that it is a “huge problem” that is “completely misunderstood for any scientist.”
American Mary Brancow, a laureate of the Nobel Prize for Medicine on 2025, also insisted yesterday on the importance of public financing of scientific research. Asked by AFP, officials from the Nobel committee who award said, by attacking science, Donald Trump risks his country to lose their leader position in the world ranking of scientific research, which would have an impact on the whole world.
