In Birobidzhan on the New Square, the monument was opened to V.I. Lenin.
The monument was built in accordance with the Decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR of July 7, 1974 No. 478.

The author of the monument is the famous Soviet sculptor, People's Artist of the USSR Kerbel Lev Efimovich. The project of the pedestal and the adjacent territory was developed by the Moscow architect Lev Misozhnikov.
The sculptural part is cast at the Mytishchensky experimental plant casting plant named after E.F. Belasheva. The height of the sculpture without a pedestal is 630 centimeters. The pedestal was lined with labradorite – a rare mineral mined in the Zhytomyr region, in Ukraine. The same stone was partially lined with Lenin’s mausoleum in Moscow. The installation of structures was conducted by the construction part of the general contractor of the UNR-254 of the Birobidzhanstroy trust.
This structure is an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.

On October 7, 2002, by a decree of the Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', Alexy II and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Birobidzhan diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church was formed.
The ruling bishop with the title of Bishop Birobidzhansky and Kuldursky was appointed Bishop Joseph (Balabanov). The Birobidzhan diocese united the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in the region.
In April 2003, the first stone temple in the entire history of the region was laid – the Cathedral in the name of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Birobidzhan. On September 21, 2005, he was consecrated by the great rank of Eminence Metropolitan Krutitsky and Kolomensky Juvenal in a service with Bishop of Birobidzhan and Kuldur Joseph.

In 2006, next to the Cathedral, the construction of the Social and Educational Center of the Birobidzhan diocese ended. It has the diocesan administration and residence of the ruling bishop, a charitable dining room, a diocesan library, a conference room, a store and a warehouse of church utensils.
Since 2015, the ruling bishop is Bishop of Birobidzha and Kuldursky Ephraim.
The dioceses have their own shrines, new parishes are created, temples are being built, church life is being revived in all aspects traditional for it, a wide missionary, educational, socio-disturbing activity is being held.
