The minister warns against danger
Minister Crosetto, quoted by Italian media, pointed out that The risk is very high. He then warned: – If the Sumud Flotilla decided to take steps to break the sea blockade, she would expose themselves to extremely high danger, which could not be controlled, considering that we are talking about civilian units that set ourselves the goal of breaking military measures.
He assured that Italian institutions are seeking that the sense of responsibility would outweigh. – The priority is to actually help the population of the Gaza Zone through the already active humanitarian and diplomatic channels – explained the defense minister.
After stopping in Crete Flotilla Sumud sailed over the weekend towards the Gaza Strip with the intention of pushing the Israeli sea blockade and providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians, living in the territory of war and the humanitarian crisis. A spokeswoman for the Italian delegation Maria Elena Delia said by answering Crosetto: – The mission is continued and is heading towards the Gaza Strip. We sail in international waters completely legally. This is our responsibility.
The clear position of Israel
Israeli authorities have announced that they would not allow activist units to reach the Gaza Strip.
The global Sumud Flotilla, which consists of about 50 boats, is an international initiative in which they participate Representatives of over 40 countries. On board the units included in it include Poles, among them MP Franciszek Sterczewski, president of the Social and Cultural Association of Polish Palestinians Omar Faris, president of the Nina Nina Ptak Association and journalist and activist Ewa Jasiewicz, author of the book “Fan Gaza”. The Italian delegation includes several parliamentarians, among others.
Italy sent to the area where the units of this humanitarian initiative, a warship, ready – as explained – would be supported if necessary. The decision to direct it was made by the Ministry of Defense after several units of the flotilla were attacked on Tuesday night by drones on Tuesday night, as a result of which they were damaged. Spain also sent her warship to support the flotilla.
For several days, the authorities in Rome have been proposing the mediation of the Latin patriarchy in Jerusalem, headed by the Italian Cardinal Pierbattist Pizzaballa. According to this proposal, the flotilla would flow to Cyprus and there it unloaded humanitarian aid, and its transfer to the Gaza Zone would provide Italian purple. Activists reject such a solution.
