Six members of the Chamber of Representatives in the United States, co-presidents of groups for Moldova, Romania and Baltic countries have signed a common press release expressing their support for organizing “free, correct and without foreign influence”.

The press release is signed by the co-presidents of the respective groups, one from the Democrats (Deborah Ross, Thomas Suozzi and Salud Carbajal) and one from the Republicans (Michael Lawler, Michael Turner and Don Bacon).

In the text of the letter, the six say that they are known to the ephtles of “foreign opponents”, to undermine the elections, being mentioned and the arrests of over 70 people involved in the planning, with Russian support, of some actions to destabilize Moldova.

We play the full text of the communiqué transmitted by American Congressants:

“On Sunday, on September 28, Moldova will organize parliamentary elections. The presidents of the groups for Moldova, Romania and the Baltic countries in the Chamber of Representatives of the United States are united in the hope that these elections will be free, correct and without foreign influence.

Moldova has declared its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and since then it is a brilliant example of democracy in the eastern flank of NATO. Ensuring the free development of these elections, the transparent counting of the votes and the peaceful acceptance of the results by all the actors will be crucial for the democratic future of the Republic of Moldova.

We, in the United States, know too well that foreign opponents will make efforts to undermine, influence and disrupt free and correct choices. Already the Moldovan authorities have arrested over 70 people as part of an investigation in a presumptive plan supported by Russia to incite revolts and destabilization at national level in relation to these essential elections.

Democracy is difficult, but respecting the will of the people is an important pillar for a stronger, more peaceful and prosperous world. We welcome every effort in Eastern Europe and throughout the world to face democracy challenges and we wish everyone to apply. “
