The suspect, 17 years old, was raised on Wednesday by authorities on Wednesday morning, when he was heading to school, and led to hearings to the police. After 8 hours, he was released, but was admitted to the Obregia Psychiatry Hospital, in the minor section, according to Digi24.
The 17 -year -old is accused of sending messages to hundreds of schools and hospitals in Romania in which he threatens to commit “a true massacre”. He was accused in the past by the FBI of similar facts, but in May 2025 the High Court of Cassation and Justice definitively rejected their request for extradition of the young man.
“It seems to be a young man who, unfortunately, did not understand anything from the situations he has caused and passed. Obviously it is the one who must confirm if these absolutely reprobate facts belong to him and are committed by him with guilt. He is a person who has a past marked by this kind,”
He explained the refusal of the Romanian justice to extradited to the US, where he risked life imprisonment, “certain technical aspects related to overlaps, the compliance of the incrimination in the two jurisdictions”.
“We hope to settle as quickly as possible if he is guilty of these absolutely condemnable facts. The dissemination of threats with bomb, the creation of fear, of fear among the citizens are absolutely unacceptable,” Marinescu said.
The young man was under house arrest in January this year, after the US authorities opened the investigation, but the preventive measure was revoked by judges in May, with the rejection of the extradition request.
Asked if the authorities have taken measures to supervise the young man after the refusal of extradition in the US, the minister explained that he cannot specify because they are ordered by the judicial bodies and have a strict and confidential regime.
