Former Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș offered a reply to Petrișor Peiu, the president of the National Management Council of the AUR, and said that the statements made by him are a “case study for political aberrations, misinformation and ill-will”.

In the post in which he responds to the criticism launched by Peiu, Cioloș does not explicitly mention the leader of the AUR senators.

“Mr. Senator, I took your text only as a case study for political aberrations, disinformation and ill-will. I didn't think you could lower yourself so much from the position of a man with studies and with economic analyzes that I sometimes appreciated, throwing lies at automatic fire, but it seems that despair has no limits”, said Dacian Cioloș, on Saturday evening, on Facebook.

Petrișor Peiu had said that Dacian Cioloș is the “advisor” of Nicușor Dan, a statement now denied by the former prime minister.

“I am no one's adviser. I have not held any public office for some time and no mandate as an adviser to President Nicușor Dan. I am a free man. But obviously for the propaganda machine that writes your texts, the truth is irrelevant. You need false targets to justify your inability to propose feasible political alternatives,” he added.

“An Aberration That Defies Logic”

Dacian Cioloș also responded to the accusation launched by Peiu according to which, when he was the European commissioner for agriculture, he “provoked” the exit of Great Britain from the EU through the common agricultural policy, an accusation that Cioloș rejected as “an aberration that defies elementary logic”.

“Romania and Great Britain have never had common interests related to agricultural subsidies, neither related to the level of subsidies nor how they are granted. Simply because Great Britain is a country for which the main objective of agriculture is related to the environment and nature and less to agricultural production,” he added.

Cioloș said that “Great Britain left the EU for completely different reasons than agriculture or agricultural subsidies, simply because for them this subject did not exist as a priority or interest in relation to the EU”.

“If you call the fact that we brought billions of euros into Romanian agriculture, despite the British opposition, a “treason”, then you have a serious problem of defining terms. Either you have no idea how the European Union and the economy work (which is serious for a senator), or you are deliberately lying to manipulate the citizens (which is vile),” the former European commissioner also stated.

What Petrișor Peiu had declared

In a post on Facebook on Friday, the leader of the National Leadership Council of the AUR stated that “it is humiliating for our national dignity that under the leadership of Nicușor Dan Romania acted against its national interest as a tool of France, in the political interest of French President Emmanuel Macron”.

Peiu claims that Macron “mimed” the opposition to the EU-Mercosur agreement “to save his position in France, threatened by the Mercosur challengers”, and because he knew “that he was counting on Romania's vote to gather the qualified majority necessary to approve the Mercosur agreement”.

“In this way, Nicușor Dan dealt a serious blow not only to Romania but also to the European Union, whose future and cohesion are endangered by the Mercosur agreement, just as his current advisor Dacian Cioloș as the European Commissioner for Agriculture caused Brexit, for the sake of supporting France's agricultural interests,” added Petrișor Peiu.

He said that Dacian Cioloș is the “honorary councilor from Cotroceni”.

“We consider that the main people responsible for the act of national treason are the president Nicușor Dan, the prime minister Ilie Bolojan, the minister of economy Radu Miruță and the minister of foreign affairs Oana Țoiu. Probably also the honorary councilor from Cotroceni, Dacian Julien Cioloș”, concluded Petrișor Peiu.
