Daniel Pancu Advocates for Simple Solution to Combat Racism in Football

Daniel Pancu, the coach of Rapid, has introduced what he believes to be a straightforward solution for addressing racism in football.

The recent derby between FCSB and Rapid, which ended in a 4-1 defeat, has intensified discussions about combating racism in football. This issue gained significant attention when coach Marius Șumudică halted a match against U Cluj after the opposing fans shouted derogatory terms.

Pancu has entered the public debate, proposing a potential penalty system: an initial warning for the first offense, followed by a loss of the match on the scoreboard for repeat offenses.

Pancu’s Simple Approach to Racism in Football

“This has been happening for decades, even directed at me. Those responsible for these issues need to take action. We should display clearly on the scoreboard: ‘You shouted, get out. If you don’t leave, your team loses 0-3, and it’s over.’ It’s that simple! Yes, yes, yes. A law should come from the state or government, and everything will be resolved,” Pancu stated on PrimaSport.

Rapid Joins Anti-Racism Campaign

Today, during their league match against Csikszereda, Rapid participated for the first time in an anti-racism campaign organized by the Romanian Professional Football League (LPF) in collaboration with the Roma Party “Pro-Europa,” after previously declining two invitations.

Before the match, players from both teams took to the field wearing white shirts with the message “STOP Racism.” A banner was displayed that read, “Football unites, racism divides. Together for respect and equality!”
