Fabian Ruiz Shines in PSG’s Champions League Victory Over Barcelona

Fabian Ruiz’s performance in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League has garnered significant acclaim from Spanish media. The midfielder netted a crucial goal at the Parc des Princes in the 86th minute, further solidifying his impact on the match.

Journalists from Marca have suggested that Ruiz deserves greater recognition on the global football stage, referencing the upcoming Balon d’Or awards set for October 26. His performances have been pivotal, having last season won both the Champions League and the French league title with PSG, along with the World Cup with the Spanish national team.

Praise for Fabian Ruiz Following PSG’s Win

Following PSG’s triumph over Barcelona, Marca posed the question, “What must Fabian Ruiz do to win the Balon d’Or?” They emphasized his phenomenal first-half performance, stating that it seems almost a mistake for him not to be a contender for the prestigious award. They noted, “He is as impactful as Pedri, Dani Olmo, and Rodri combined. He can play defensively, as an attacking midfielder, or advance remarkably down the right flank.”

It was understandable that Luis de la Fuente started Ruiz during the World Cup, even at the cost of playing Pedri. In the latter stages of the match against Barcelona, Ruiz demonstrated his stamina by reaching the far post to score PSG’s fourth goal. His growth in Paris has been significant, and the team heavily relies on him.

This season, Ruiz has participated in all three UEFA Champions League matches, scoring two goals and providing an assist. In Ligue 1, he has played six matches with two assists but has yet to find the net.

PSG Maintains Perfect Champions League Record

Barcelona was the second team defeated by PSG in their group, following their 4-2 victory over Manchester City in the second round. In the clash against Barcelona, PSG’s goals came from Doue (38′), Hernandez (72′), Vitinha (81′), and Ruiz (86′), while the Catalans scored through Espart (55′) and Yamal (79′).

Thanks to this victory, PSG continues its flawless run in the new UEFA Champions League format, amassing maximum points after the first three matches, sharing the top spot with Liverpool. Conversely, Barcelona remains with six points, sitting in fifth place in the standings.
