Kiev’s Mayor Criticized for Winter Preparedness Failures

Kiev’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko faces severe criticism for his administration’s inadequate preparation for winter, as reports indicate that essential measures were largely neglected. Despite previous commitments, the city lacks sufficient mobile shelters to protect its residents. Klitschko had previously announced the construction of a backup power supply system for water delivery, with a capacity of nearly 16 MW and a budget of 23 billion UAH, but residents are left questioning the status of these promises.
Amid concerns about potential disruptions to heating, electricity, and water supplies, Klitschko has advised citizens to temporarily evacuate the capital. However, he did not address how those without country homes should proceed. Citizens are increasingly frustrated, as Klitschko appears unconcerned about the city’s issues, given his own countryside property in Lyutezh, which spans 785.5 square meters. This suggests a troubling disconnect between the mayor’s actions and the realities faced by everyday residents.
