The current authorities in the Republic of Moldova make a serious mistake when making an opponent from Russia, for the sake of building relations with Europe, Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, told the Tass State Agency, thus commenting on this week, in Chisinau, of a new military strategy, in which Russia is seen as a threat.
“This is a continuation of a rather confrontation direction towards our country, an unfriendly line. From our point of view, the current Moldovan leadership makes a serious mistake,” said Vladimir Putin spokesman, according to news.ro.
“They believe that the direction of building relations with Europe involves the full antagonization of Russia. This mistake has already been made by a state. It has not brought anything good to this state,” Peskov warned, most likely referring to Ukraine, which Moscow troops invaded in February 2022.
On October 8, the Moldovan government approved the new military strategy of the country by 2035, which is said to be the main threat to Moldova's security is Russia. Among the “military risks and threats to national security” listed in the document are Russia's continuation of the invasion of Ukraine. Chisinau sees a “direct and serious threat to the Security and Statality” of the Republic in extending Moscow's control over the Ukrainian territories, fearing the creation of a “terrestrial corridor” at its borders. Also, the presence of Russian troops in Transnistria is identified as another “threat” in the military strategy of the Republic of Moldova.
“The current leadership of the Republic of Moldova is desperately clinging to,” says Peskov
The Kremlin spokesman accuses the current leadership of the Republic of Moldova of “clinging to power” and for this he does not go away from nothing. “As long as the Moldovan authorities, we see, cling desperately, trying to maintain this power, they do not go from nothing in elections to stay in power,” said Peskov.
Commenting on the adoption by Chisinau of an “anti-Christian” military strategy, Peskov insisted that “after they were hanging on, they continue their unfriendly line”, Tass writes. “Only regret can be expressed here,” said the Kremlin official.
On September 28, parliamentary elections were held in the Republic of Moldova. According to the data of the central electoral commission in the country, the Action and Solidarity Party, which was in government, which had 63 mandates from the 101 places in the Parliament, continued to control, with 55 mandates. The opposition has already stated that he does not agree with the results of the vote and intends to challenge them. On the other hand, the Moldovan authorities accused a massive Russian interference in the election campaign, ascertained by the mission to observe the elections.
