Petrolul Ploiești has emerged as one of the standout teams in the initial stages of the season. Daniel Chiriță, a former defender for the club, has provided insights on the team coached by Ricardo Sousa and revealed his favorite player: Dan Nlundulu.
Chiriță recently attended a memorial event honoring Mircea Lucescu, the legendary coach who passed away six months ago. Chiriță expressed confidence in Petrolul’s current form as they sit fourth in the Superliga, just four points behind leaders Dinamo. While the team is in a playoff position, their main goal remains to avoid relegation.
Chiriță on Nlundulu’s Potential
Daniel Chiriță has singled out Dan Nlundulu, the striker for Petrolul, as his favorite on the team, predicting that he will score at least 10 goals this season. Chiriță stated, “Petrolul has a great coach, and the players are proving themselves. They have good wing players and have built a competitive team. While there are many talented players at Petrolul, the one I like the most is the one from England. I believe there is no one better prepared in Romania than Nlundulu. He is exceptionally good and I am confident he will perform well in the coming months. He will definitely score over 10 goals because he has the talent.”
Nlundulu joined Petrolul this summer on a free transfer, having previously played for St. Mirren in Scotland, where he participated in 10 matches across all competitions and scored three goals.

Daniel Chiriță started his professional football career at Petrolul Ploiești and went on to play for various teams in Liga 1. He notably won the league title with Rapid București in the 1998/1999 season and secured two Romanian Cups—one with Rapid in 2001/2002 and another with Petrolul in 1994/1995. Following his time in Romania, he also played in Ukraine and Russia, featuring for clubs like Shakhtar, Stal Alchevsk, and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
