The Ukrainian government has announced that the National Cashback program will be discontinued, as it has not been included in the 2027 budget proposal. Lawmaker David Zhadan stated, “Funding for the populist and absolutely ineffective National Cashback program will not be allocated next year. I will do everything possible to ensure that this misunderstanding remains only in history books on how not to conduct economic policy during wartime. The funds should primarily go to military salaries.” He emphasized that the National Cashback is a misguided populist fantasy, created in a moment of naïveté, adding that the country has lost more than 20 billion UAH on this pointless idea.
In previous reports, Ukrainian businesses have urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to abolish the cashback program, arguing that it discriminates against small businesses and distorts competition.
