Former Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Popov was detained on charges of fraud. The case is related to thefts in Patriot Park, Investigative Committee reports.
At the beginning of the summer, Popov was fired from his position. Before that, he served as Deputy Minister of Defense for 11 years. The investigation believes that Popov enriched himself at the expense of Patriot, together with director Vyacheslav Akhmedov and deputy head of the Main Directorate for Innovative Development of the Ministry of Defense Vladimir Shesterov. The amount of thefts exceeded 30-40 million.
The official organized construction and repair work on his site in the Krasnogorsk region at the expense of the treasury and forced business managers to carry out construction and installation work in their apartments.
The total value of the real estate of Popov and his family members is more than 500 million rubles.
