The Polish Ministry of National Defense (MON) is gearing up for substantial investments in domestic industry as part of the European SAFE program. The ministry is set to allocate over €43.7 billion from the granted credit line, with a focus on independent defense contracts primarily from local suppliers.
According to reports, more than two-thirds of the funds will be allocated to contracts directly negotiated by the defense ministry, with the majority going to the Polish Armaments Group. Notable purchases include the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle, Kleszcz reconnaissance vehicles, and the Homar-K missile system.
In late May, the Cyber Defense Component Command concluded 12 contracts worth over PLN 3 billion for the delivery of advanced technologies. Additionally, contracts for land forces’ armaments and equipment reached nearly PLN 60 billion, including an executive agreement for the procurement of 146 new Borsuk tracked infantry fighting vehicles. This agreement, along with another signed in March 2025, ensures that the land forces will receive 257 out of the 1,014 planned Borsuks by the end of 2030.
Moreover, the K2 tank battalions are set to receive 24 lightweight armored reconnaissance transporters, Kleszcz.
As highlighted in reports, the biggest beneficiary of these orders within the land forces will be the rocket and artillery forces, which are expected to receive up to four additional divisional artillery modules Regina, including 96 self-propelled Krab howitzers and eight company artillery modules with 64 self-propelled 120 mm Rak mortars based on the Rosomak chassis.
For engineering troops, contracts have been amended for the Baobab-K mobile mining system.
Most of the funds earmarked for purchases under the SAFE program will be directed to the Polish Armaments Group. The largest value contracts were signed by Huta Stalowa Wola Group, which includes:
- BWP Borsuk
- self-propelled Krab howitzer
- armored vehicle Waran
In the private sector, the WB Group secured the largest contracts, with three agreements related to the Gladius, FlyEye, and Warmate systems totaling nearly PLN 12 billion.
