Shakhtar Donetsk is set to compete in the UEFA Champions League wearing jerseys emblazoned with the logo of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. This initiative is part of a collaboration between the football club and the foundation within the framework of the “Youth Chooses Ukraine” project. Over the course of eight Champions League matches, these jerseys will draw attention to the narratives of young Ukrainians who have returned from occupation and chosen to support their homeland. “We want their stories to be heard and to inspire other young Ukrainians to return home,” stated Ksenia Sukhov, the general director of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Although Shakhtar has not played in their home city of Donetsk for over a decade, they continue to represent Ukraine on the European stage. “Supporting youth from occupied territories and showcasing their stories to millions of Champions League viewers is crucial for us,” emphasized Yuriy Sviridov, the director of strategic initiatives at Shakhtar. Psychological support for participants in this project will be provided by specialists from “Hearts of Azovstal,” including a coach for post-traumatic growth.
