Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Sibiga has issued a stark warning about ongoing Russian aggression towards Europe, emphasizing that these threats must be taken seriously. According to Sibiga, incidents ranging from sabotage against defense industries in multiple EU countries to the recent drone and missile incursions into NATO airspace signal a coordinated campaign from Russia.
He pointed to various tactics employed by Russia that have already targeted Europe, including the disruption of GPS signals, cyberattacks, and the establishment of underground tunnels connecting Belarus with the Baltic states. He stated, “Russia is already actively attacking Europe,” underscoring the need for a proactive and strong response from European nations.
Sibiga highlighted three critical measures that he believes are necessary to counteract this growing threat. Firstly, he called for drastically limiting the presence of Russian citizens in Europe, suggesting that entry to the EU for Russian militants should be banned and non-essential visas should be minimized. He described this as a matter of immediate national security.
Secondly, he urged European countries to sever all ties with Russia, including trade relations. Sibiga stressed that every connection with Russia poses a potential vulnerability that Moscow could exploit against Europe, advocating for trade embargoes, strict sanctions, and the cessation of all energy projects, including those related to nuclear energy.
Lastly, he emphasized the need to dismantle Russian influence networks within Europe, including cultural centers and illicit networks that corrupt political and business elites. He stated, “These steps are not just requests from Ukraine, a nation at war with Russia; they represent the last chance for European governments to protect their citizens, economies, and democratic institutions. The choice is clear: act decisively or risk allowing Moscow to succeed in its aggressive strategy against Europe.”
Sibiga reassured that Ukraine has amassed significant experience in countering Russian aggression and is prepared to share this knowledge to help safeguard peace and stability across the European continent.
In a related interview with Swedish broadcaster SVT, Ukrainian drone forces commander Robert Brodii cautioned that NATO countries may not be ready for a potential drone conflict and warned against the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin launching an invasion, particularly in the Baltic states.
