Swiss Police Arrest 43-Year-Old Suspect Following Rave Festival Shooting

Swiss authorities announced on Monday the arrest of a 43-year-old man linked to a shooting incident that resulted in casualties during a rave festival in Aarau over the weekend.

A 22-year-old Italian woman was killed, and five others sustained injuries from the gunfire that erupted at the event held in a covered racetrack early Sunday morning.

The police launched a large-scale operation and confirmed on Monday afternoon the capture of the Swiss suspect who allegedly carried out the attack shortly before 1:00 AM on Sunday night.

“Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident, as well as its context and possible motive, are ongoing. At this stage, it is presumed that a single perpetrator was involved,” stated the Aargau police in a press release.

Investigation Into Motives Remains Ongoing

The authorities indicated they are exploring various motives behind the shooting, including a potential mass shooting attempt, an act of terrorism, and an unknown criminal motive.

Shell casings discovered at the scene suggested the use of two different caliber bullets, possibly fired from a handgun and a larger weapon, which police believe could be an assault rifle.

The Swiss newspaper Blick reported that the gunfire occurred before 3:00 AM (4:00 AM in Romania) at the “Aarauer Rave,” an annual techno music festival that attracted approximately 3,500 attendees at the Aarau racetrack from 3:00 PM on Saturday until 2:00 AM on Sunday.

All injured individuals are Swiss residents aged between 20 and 30 years.
