Recent Russian military operations have once again targeted civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, leading to the destruction of two sorting centers belonging to Nova Poshta. This marks at least the fourth assault on the Epicenter hypermarkets in Zaporizhzhia in 2026, with two strikes occurring this month alone, according to reports from Forbes Ukraine.
Destruction of civil infrastructure in Ukraine
In a nocturnal operation, Russian forces dropped eight guided bombs on Sumy, targeting Nova Poshta’s sorting facility among other civilian structures. The head of the regional administration, Oleg Grygorov, reported that these strikes resulted in one fatality—a 61-year-old truck driver who was in his vehicle during the attack in the Zarichne district. Additionally, seven others suffered injuries in the incident.
Another sorting depot of Nova Poshta, located in Kyiv Oblast, was also hit by a drone strike, leading to its destruction. The company’s press service confirmed that all employees were unharmed. Anton Ovsienko, the village head of Bilohorodka, stated that the warehouse and adjacent production facilities were damaged in this attack.
Recently, waves of Russian drones have targeted Kyiv and its surrounding areas, with each wave comprising a small number of drones. This tactic has resulted in frequent air raid alerts—13 were issued in the capital alone yesterday. During these alerts, ground metro services in Kyiv are halted, shopping centers are closed, and certain bridges are blocked off. According to Andriy Kovalensky, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the objective behind these operations is to paralyze Kyiv, exhaust air defense systems, and demoralize the population.
“We will have responses to counter this tactic from the Russians,” he assured.
Since last evening, the Ukrainian Air Forces reported that Russian forces launched 164 various types of drones at Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defense successfully destroying or neutralizing 137 of these threats. Strikes were recorded at 16 locations, with debris falling in four areas. The assault continues, with approximately ten enemy UAVs currently active in Ukraine’s airspace.
