A devastating attack occurred at the railway station in Kvitneve, Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. This incident is part of a broader assault that left 17 people dead during a nighttime bombardment.
Three women living on one of the most damaged streets in Kvitneve shared their traumatic experiences. Anastasia, her mother, and her 89-year-old grandmother witnessed the chaos. “As soon as the alarm sounded, I said, ‘Mom, should we go?’ And then, just like that, a missile struck right behind us. I fell to the floor, and I remember my socks flying off – I was barefoot on the glass,” Anastasia recounted.
Hours before the missile strike, a drone had fallen near their home, causing damage. Reports indicate that the railway station, located close to targeted logistics centers, was crowded with people who had gathered there due to a train delay caused by the ongoing attacks.
The platform was hit as workers from the logistics centers were waiting for a train. According to a representative from Ukrainian Railways, the missile appeared to have exploded after hitting the tops of trees, landing directly in front of the platform.
Vitaliy Bihun, head of the Brovary district administration, noted that the victims were likely trying to find safety. He stated that the area is home to several logistics facilities that were struck, affecting various businesses.
Authorities emphasized that passengers should seek shelter during air raid alerts, as many did not follow this guidance during the attack. Ukrainian Railways has reiterated the necessity of evacuating quickly during warnings.
Following a series of strikes, two main logistics centers, including major facilities linked to various companies, were destroyed. Reports from affected businesses revealed that six employees of the supermarket chain Silpo lost their lives, while three were at the station, and three others failed to reach shelter in time. Other companies like Rozetka and Novus reported no casualties.
In total, 78 properties were damaged across the Kyiv region due to the strikes, including warehouses and private homes. The Brovary district suffered the most, reporting 10 fatalities and numerous injuries.
Identities of some victims have been made public, including Ihor Vlasenko and Vita Horkavenko, both from communities in the Chernihiv region. Vlasenko’s occupation was not specified, while Horkavenko worked at a warehouse.
