Uber Proposes $14.8 Billion Acquisition of Delivery Hero

Uber has made a public offer to acquire Delivery Hero, a leading German food delivery company, valued at $14.8 billion. If finalized, this transaction could culminate in the creation of the largest global company in the food delivery sector, excluding the Chinese market, according to reports from Reuters.

The American giant, known for its ride-hailing services, aims to strengthen its position in the competitive global food delivery market through this acquisition. Delivery Hero operates in 99 countries, with an estimated combined market value of $236 billion annually.

Delivery Hero Open to Uber’s Offer

Negotiations between the two firms are already underway, and there are indications that the deal could be finalized later this year. The board of directors at Delivery Hero has expressed support for Uber’s proposal. Kristin Skogen Lund, chairwoman of Delivery Hero’s supervisory board, stated, “Joining forces with a strong partner is the right move for Delivery Hero to secure the company’s future competitiveness,” as reported by Reuters.

Furthermore, the acquisition would enhance Uber Eats’ delivery network across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. However, it may also attract scrutiny from antitrust regulators due to overlapping operations. To facilitate regulatory approvals, Delivery Hero has agreed to sell part of its business in 14 markets to the investment firm SSW Partners for approximately €1.4 billion.

In addition, Uber has committed to invest €2 billion in Germany by 2031 and has agreed to maintain Delivery Hero’s Berlin headquarters and workforce at least until 2029.
