EU Commissioner and Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Propose DBR Reform Amid Concerns
The European Commissioner for Enlargement and Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Integration have initiated reforms for the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), raising alarms about the potential dangers of these changes. The proposed legislation is expected to be developed and submitted to the parliament by the end of 2026. However, the DBR’s head, Oleksandr Sukachov, claims that the reform, in its current form, would lead to the agency’s dismantling.
Sukachov expressed concerns, stating, “Since December of last year, we have sensed a powerful campaign against the DBR’s existence in its current format. Our activities have not been well-received by certain figures involved in our criminal cases, and they are shaping public opinion through their media resources about the need for Bureau reform.”
