Ștefan Baiaram (23 years old) was suspended for the next two matches, both with FCSB, following the decision of the FRF Disciplinary Commission, after he spat at a supporter who allegedly cursed him.
Context
At the end of the derby on the National Arena between Dinamo and Universitatea Craiova, which ended with a score of 1-1, Ștefan Baiaram spat at a supporter of the opponent.
- Following the meeting of the Disciplinary Commission of the FRF held on Wednesday, February 11, it was decided that Baiaram will receive a suspension of two matches and a fine of 6,800 lei.
- Thus, Baiaram will miss the next two matches, both against FCSB, the first in the Romanian Cup, and the other in the Superliga.
Ștefan Baiaram accepts that he shouldn't have spat, but explains: “A supporter spat on me”
The winger of Craiova University explained his reprehensible gesture as follows: “I was offended by the second stand. These are the Dynamo fans, they offended me badly, unpleasantly, especially since I am Romanian and I play for the national team.
I went to the tunnel, and a supporter spat at me. He had nothing to look for there. It can be seen on the images that I was spat on, but I shouldn't have had that gesture”.
More recently, the “Roma For Democracy Romania” foundation also intervened in the “Ștefan Baiaram” scandal, which issued a statement under the title “Dignity is not part of the sports show”, in which it expresses its “concern about the ethnic manifestations reported during the Dinamo – University Craiova match” and specifies that “we will submit a complaint to the CNCD, against the Dinamo club”.
“Rome for Democracy Romania” communique
The Roma for Democracy Foundation expresses its concern about the ethnic manifestations reported during the match Dinamo – University of Craiova.
The repeated chanting of a stigmatizingly used historical label cannot be treated as a mere expression of sporting rivalry. Romania is a constitutional state that prohibits discrimination and protects the dignity of every citizen.
In this framework, the consistent application of anti-discrimination regulations in sports competitions is an institutional obligation, not an option.
We therefore request the following FRF and LPF::
• Prompt intervention and fining/punishing the Dinamo club in such a way that there are no other similar situations
• uniform application of existing rules; • adoption of a clear intervention protocol in cases of discriminatory manifestations;
• the development of real programs of prevention and civic education in the sports environment.
Sport must remain a space of competition and solidarity, not a framework for legitimizing ethnic stigmatization.
We also mention the fact that we will submit a complaint to the CNCD, against the Dinamo club. Dignity is not negotiable. Compliance with the law must be consistent
Sorin Cârțu is outraged: “It's clear, the games have begun!”
After the suspension of Baiaram, the honorary president of Craiova University, Sorin Cârțu, interpreted the measure taken against the Romanian international as a helping hand given by the Disciplinary Commission to the opponent FCSB.
“You totally surprised me. It's clear, the games have started. They had already started from this phase with Baiaram and let's see what awaits us from now on, in the play-offs. Now it remains to give us a referee…for one of the two games we will more than likely have Barbu. What can I say, your words definitely take such a decision.
The one who provoked him was also banned from the stadiums, suspended, fined, something? Nothing, normal. Instead they took the player. It's a big loss, absolutely. What more can I say… ugly, ugly everything. For me, the decision taken against him is crazy and it's clear that other parties have also started”, said Sorin Cârțu, according to fanatik.ro.
