Cristiano Ronaldo’s International Retirement Announcement Ahead of World Cup Match

The Portuguese national football team is set to face Croatia in the World Cup round of 16 on the night of Thursday to Friday, and this match could be the last one for Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, in national colors if the team is eliminated. This year’s World Cup appears to be the final tournament for the Portuguese star, who plans to retire from international duty.

The announcement of his retirement from the national team was made by Ronaldo’s sister, Katia, just before the match against Croatia.

Cristiano Ronaldo Nears Retirement from International Play

Katia Aveiro stated that, according to her information, this World Cup represents Cristiano Ronaldo’s “last dance” with the Portuguese team. She noted that the separation may not necessarily occur right after the match with Croatia in the event of an elimination, but she believes this is the final tournament for the forward.

“From the information I have, you can start saying goodbye. So enjoy him while you can. I don’t think you’ll be saying farewell today, but that moment is approaching. I truly believe this is his last dance, so savor every moment, as it will be very hard to find another player like him,” Katia Aveiro remarked.

When asked if she was referring to Ronaldo’s retirement from the national team after the 2026 World Cup, the footballer’s sister confirmed and stated that her information comes from a reliable source.

“Yes, I am referring to Portugal. The information I have, from a trustworthy source, makes me believe that this is his last dance,” she added.

Katia Aveiro also spoke about the criticisms directed at Cristiano Ronaldo, asserting that they do not affect either the player or their family. “Cristiano has been breaking records for over 20 years. Do you really believe such comments affect us? After all we’ve been through as a family, nothing can take away our happiness,” she concluded.

At 41 years and 147 days old, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to start against Croatia, making history as the oldest outfield player to participate in a World Cup knockout match.
