Lamine Yamal Shines in Spain’s Win Over Saudi Arabia

Lamine Yamal made a significant impact in Spain’s 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia, scoring the opening goal just ten minutes into the match before being substituted at halftime.

Prior to the game against Spain, Saudi Arabian fans taunted Yamal, chanting, “Where is Lamine Yamal?” This was a reference to his subdued performance in a previous match against Cape Verde, which ended in a goalless draw.

However, the 18-year-old winger quickly silenced the critics with his on-field performance and a strong social media presence, stating, “You wonder where I am? Here I am!” after his goal.

Lamine Yamal Reflects on His World Cup Debut

Yamal reflected on Spain’s World Cup 2026 journey, noting the stark difference between the match against Cape Verde and their current performance. “Whether you play or not depends on the game. Ultimately, it turned out as we hoped, and I was able to rest a bit,” he said.

“Scoring at a World Cup is very special. I’ve always dreamed of playing in a World Cup, and to score in my first match is a dream come true. I used to watch matches during school hours in the previous World Cup,” he added.

Ralf Rangnick on Yamal’s Potential

Looking ahead, Spain could potentially face Austria in the knockout stages. Ralf Rangnick, the coach of the Austrian team, expressed his concerns about facing Spain, particularly due to Yamal’s talents.

“Spain is an opponent that nobody wants to meet. They have made a significant mark on football history in recent years, and with Lamine Yamal among them, they are formidable. If he stays healthy and grounded, he could reach a level comparable to Lionel Messi,” Rangnick stated during a press conference ahead of Austria’s match against Argentina, scheduled for tonight at 8:00 PM at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
