Train Collision Near London Leaves One Dead and Dozens Injured

A train engineer has died and dozens more were injured in a collision involving two commuter trains that occurred on Friday, approximately 100 kilometers north of London.
East Midlands Railway, which operated both trains involved in the incident, confirmed on Saturday that the engineer of one of the trains had passed away.
Social media footage showed that the train accident was severe.
The East of England ambulance service reported that, in addition to the one fatality at the scene, 11 individuals sustained very serious injuries, 22 were seriously injured, and 56 suffered minor injuries.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his condolences, stating, “My thoughts are with the family of the person who sadly lost their life, as well as those who were seriously injured.”
The cause of the incident remains unclear, and Transport Minister Heidi Alexander announced that an investigation is underway.
Peter Knapp, a doctor who was on board one of the trains, described a “sudden collision” that caused a carriage to derail, noting that he sustained minor injuries.
