Germany made a strong debut at the 2026 World Cup and beat the Curaçao national team without the right to appeal, score 7-1, in the first match of group E. Although they were equalized in the 21st minute, the team trained by Julian Nagelsmann (38 years old) reacted immediately and gave a real offensive recital.

Qualified for the first time at a World Championship, the national team from Curaçao was unable to withstand the power of Germany, who categorically dominated the game and achieved the clearest victory of the tournament so far.

Germany, the new all-time leader in the number of goals scored at the World Championship

Thanks to the seven successes in this match, Germany became the national team with the most goals scored in the history of the World Championships. According to Squawka statistics, the Germans reached 239 goals, surpassing Brazil, who have 238.

At the same time, among the matches played at the World Championship in the 21st century in which a team scored at least seven goals, three belong to Germany:

  • 8-0 with Saudi Arabia in 2002;

  • 7-1 against Brazil in the 2014 semi-finals;

  • 7-1 with Curaçao in 2026.

Deniz Undav (29 years old) also ticked off a remarkable performance. Coming off the bench, he scored a goal and provided two assists, becoming only the second player to achieve such a feat at a World Cup since the introduction of detailed statistics in 1966, following James Rodríguez in 2014.

The 7-1 scoreline inevitably recalled the famous semi-final on July 8, 2014, when Germany beat Brazil by the same scoreline.

With three points and a goal difference of +6, Germany are strong favorites to qualify for the knockout stages. According to Football Meets Data, Julian Nagelsmann's side now have a 99.6% chance of making it past the group stage, which would represent their first qualification for the knockout stages since the 2014 edition.

Instead, the chances of the representative from Curaçao have decreased considerably, and in order to still hope for the eighths, they will, most likely, need at least four points in the next two matches.
