LIVE Meeting today at PNL. Bolojan and Vestea, face to face after accusations of “betrayal” and “conspiracy”

The PNL leadership meets on Monday afternoon in a meeting of the National Political Bureau to discuss the party's position regarding the support of the prime minister appointed to form the Adrian Veștea government. Vestea's nomination was made by President Nicușor Dan without consulting the parliamentary parties.

The meeting of the liberal leadership in which the proposal of the head of state will be discussed will start at 17.00. The news said he would attend and give his point of view.

“I am known by my colleagues from the National Liberal Party. I believe that tomorrow (Monday) I will have the strength to be able to convince them to put the country first, to treat this moment with responsibility and to be with me,” Vestea declared on Sunday evening on Antena3.

Nicușor Dan announced on Sunday, at 9:00 a.m., that Adrian Veștea, president of CJ Brașov and first vice-president of the PNL, is the new appointed prime minister, after Eugen Tomac submitted his mandate.

The appointment of Adrian Veștea caused tensions in the PNL.

The leader of the PNL, interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan, accused the president Nicușor Dan of “an obvious attempt to break the PNL”, saying that the leadership of the PNL was not “previously informed”, “not even me personally”.

For his part, Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of the PNL, spoke of a “plot”, a “betrayal” and an “interference”.

“We all found out post-factum, when the phones started ringing. It is an act of aggression against a democratic party, never seen before, which those who plotted against us in the last months, took today to its most aggressive phase”, said Ciprian Ciucu, on his Facebook page.

Other liberal leaders, however, have publicly expressed their support for Vestea.

The news, about Bolojan: “I called, I wrote him a message”

Adrian Veștea said on Monday, on Radio Romania Actualității, that, after the announcement of the president Nicusor Dan, he wrote and called the president of the PNL, the interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan, but he had no reaction from him.

“After the appointment I called, I wrote him a message. I haven't had any reaction until this moment. We are going to discuss during the course of today”, said Adrian Veştea.

He mentioned that he also surprised his family with this designation and had many explanations to give.

“It's true, I think everyone was surprised. I also surprised my family. I had a lot of explaining to do yesterday, but I think I made a correct, responsible decision, at a critical moment, which any man who respects the position from which he is nominated and the path he has had from a political point of view must assume and do something for our country,” declared the designated prime minister.
