“The untimely proposal from the Cotroceni Palace increases the current crisis”. AUR harshly criticizes Nicușor Dan's decision

The party led by George Simion reacted harshly after the president Nicușor Dan appointed the liberal Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister, accusing a violation of democratic principles and invoking the formation of “personal regimes, similar to authoritarian or even totalitarian ones“.
AUR conveyed that “democracy based on elections, political parties and the will of the people is suspended starting from December 2024” and emphasized that Romania is going through a period of deep political crisis, in a press release, which George Simion also shared on his Facebook page.
“AUR remains with democracy and the will of the Romanians”, was the message of the AUR leader.
Also, the group believes that the appointment of Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister was made without explicit political support and criticized the way in which the decision was announced.
“The Romanian state is in a moment of great balance, and the untimely proposal coming from the Cotroceni Palace, on a Sunday morning, without Adrian Veștea being proposed by any political party, only increases the current crisis we are going through. The separation of powers in the state means that the Legislature cannot be subordinated to the Presidency. When it gets stuck, the constitutional solution is early elections”, they said the representatives of the largest opposition party in Romania.
The AUR party also warned that it will not accept the appearance of “personal regimes, similar to authoritarian or even totalitarian ones” in Romania.
“We note with sadness that we were right in what we supported. Europe is being trampled precisely by those who claim to support it most vehemently”, believe the representatives of the formation.
They also added that they maintain their previously expressed positions and that “Romania does not need traitors, but consensus, dialogue and hope”.
The statements of the AUR representatives came shortly after the president Nicușor Dan announced the appointment of the first vice-president of the PNL Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister, a decision that generated reactions on the political scene in Romania, including within the PNL, several liberals accusing an act of treason.
