Royal Pimms – a recipe for a legendary summer cocktail from the chef of Elizabeth II

During summer garden parties, guests and members of the British royal family were served a special drink – a cocktail called Royal Pimm's. Royal chef Darren McGrady, who was Queen Elizabeth II's personal chef for 11 years, explained how to prepare it on his YouTube channel.

This refreshing gin-based drink is a traditional treat at summer receptions at Buckingham Palace. McGrady noted that during his time as the queen's chef, the cocktail was often prepared for garden parties.

“It’s no secret that the Queen is a gin drinker,” he recalled.

Ingredients for the royal dessert

  • oranges, cut into slices;
  • lemons (cut into slices);
  • strawberry;
  • pitted cherries;
  • fresh cucumber peel, peeled with a vegetable peeler;
  • mint;
  • lots of ice;
  • one part gin and three parts Sprite.


Preparation:

  1. Place fruits, berries, herbs and cucumber strips in a glass or jug.
  2. Fill with ice.
  3. Pour gin and sweet soda over the fruit.
