According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office, over 17,000 people were affected in the first quarter of 2026. people. Although most incidents do not end with the most serious consequences, statistics show that every day someone suffers serious damage to their health, and a tragic accident occurs every three days. Compared to the same period last year, the number of injured persons increased by 2.76 thousand, which is an increase of 19.3%.
It is worth noting that these data do not include people injured on individual farms, where 1,686 accidents were recorded in the first quarter, including 16 fatal ones – we read on bizblog.spidersweb.pl.

The accident rate, i.e. the number of injured persons per thousand employees, also increased significantly. In the first three months of 2026, it was 1.24, an increase of one fifth compared to last year, when the rate was 1.04.
Dangerous regions and industries
Statistics from the Central Statistical Office cover the whole of Poland and all sectors of the economy, but the situation in individual regions and industries varies greatly. The safest region is Mazovia and Małopolska, where the accident rate remains below 1. Warmia and Mazury and Western Pomerania, on the other hand, are among the voivodeships with the highest level of risk, with the rate almost twice as high. The most accidents were recorded in Silesia, although the accident rate there did not exceed 1.5.

On the other hand, accidents occur least frequently in the IT and communications sector. In this industry, an accident happens on average to one in 6.7 thousand people. employees, which makes it one of the safest and best paid according to the PKD classification.

Causes of accidents and employee behavior
The Central Statistical Office also analyzed the causes of accidents at work. Most often, the employee himself was to blame – his inappropriate behavior was responsible for 4 out of 10 incidents. Statisticians also examined what the victims were doing at the time of the accident. According to the Central Statistical Office's announcement, the most frequently performed activity was “moving”.
It is worth remembering that the actual number of accidents may be even higher because the statistics do not cover all cases, especially those involving individual farms in agriculture. Data from the Central Statistical Office show that work safety in Poland requires more and more attention from both employers and employees.
