A pensioner from the Krasnoyarsk Territory gave more than 11 million rubles to scammers

11 June 11:17

72-year-old village resident Mozharka Kuraginsky District gave 11.3 million rubles to scammers, the Krasnoyarsk Territory police reported.

The deception began when the woman received a call from “employees of the sorting center” and was told that they had the belongings of her son, who died in the Northern Military District, for which she needed to return the code from the SMS. Having done this, she received a message about her personal account being hacked at State Services and called the specified hotline number.

There, the scammers stated that on behalf of the pensioner, a power of attorney had been issued to a representative of an unfriendly country to use her bank accounts and real estate. Subsequently, false law enforcement officials and Roskomnadzor contacted the victim. As a result, the pensioner was convinced that scammers were encroaching on her money, and they were recommended to hand over the cash to the courier in order to secure it.

“First, the woman withdrew 4.9 million rubles from her accounts and gave them to the messenger, giving the password “For ours.” Then, on the instructions of the scammers, she withdrew another 2.5 million rubles. During the conversation, the criminals said that they would revoke the power of attorney issued to her, and also stated the need to sell the apartment in Abakan, since illegal actions had been committed with it, and even advised a realtor. For the sold apartment, the woman received 3.3 million rubles, which she gave to the courier, giving the same password. On the same day, the victim transferred another 612 thousand through an ATM. Then the attackers stopped communicating. The woman realized that she had become a victim of deception and contacted the police,” the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Currently, a criminal case has been opened and is being investigated regarding fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
