Shocking case in Cluj: religious leader arrested for sexual assaults. Accused of abusing several girls at religious gatherings
A serious case is being investigated in Cluj county, where a 66-year-old man, who organized unofficial religious gatherings at his home, is accused of rape and sexual assault on several girls. Investigators claim that the acts were committed starting in 2023, during meetings in which he took advantage of his position as a spiritual leader and the trust the victims had in him.

According to the Cluj County Police Inspectorate, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service ordered the arrest of the man on June 10, and he was later presented to the court, which decided on preventive arrest.
“On June 10, the police officers from the Cluj County Police Inspectorate – Criminal Investigation Service ordered the detention of a 66-year-old man, investigated for the crimes of rape and sexual assault”IPJ Cluj reported on Wednesday evening.
The investigators carried out two searches at buildings in the city of Huedin and the commune of Călățele, both belonging to it.
“From the research carried out so far, it emerged that, during 2023, taking advantage of the position of spiritual leader within a religious group that he coordinated and the trust that the injured persons had in him, the 66-year-old man, from Călățele commune, would have committed acts of a sexual nature on a 17-year-old young woman, without her consent. Also, during 2023-2024, he allegedly sexually assaulted three other young women between the ages of 15 and 18, through sexual touches, the acts being committed in the context of religious meetings organized at his home“, announced the Police.
Research continues under the coordination of the case prosecutor, to establish the entire criminal activity and identify any other injured persons.
