Portugal will make their final tournament debut on June 17 at 20:00 against the Democratic Republic of Congo in a Group K match.
The Portuguese technician is convinced that his country's national team has the necessary strength to fight for the trophy and believes that the Lusitanians can defeat any opponent at the World Championship.
Portugal are in Group K, along with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.
Nuno Campos: “Vitinha is the best midfielder in the world”
The new coach of Dinamo singled out Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he considers the undisputed leader of the Portuguese national team, but he also had words of praise for Vitinha, the PSG midfielder.
In the interview given to the Hungarian publication, Campos stated that he considers the footballer of the French champion to be the best midfielder in the world at the moment.
“Portugal can beat anyone. They are a strong team with excellent players and we have a good chance of winning the World Cup. Of course, when it comes to the Portuguese national team, everyone thinks of Cristiano Ronaldo.
He is the leader of the team and one of the most important players. But we also have to mention Vitinha, who is the best midfielder in the world. He has been a key man at PSG for several years and has won two UEFA Champions League trophies in the last two.
Portugal's national team has all the qualities to win every match at the World Cup, but there are many factors to consider. Of course, there are other strong teams and we have to mention elements such as climate, time zone difference, turf, current form or even that environment.
Small details can radically change the course of events. However, let's not anticipate things, first let's see how we will do in the group and in the elimination stages”, said Nuno Campos, according to nemzetisport.hu.
Campos has worked in Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Italy and Ukraine, mainly as Paulo Fonseca's second-in-command. He then began his career as a head coach, first with Flamengo's U20 team and then with Zalaegerszeg, a team with one of the smallest budgets in the country. Finished 5th in Hungary and played in the Cup Final.
I played with Vitinha's father, Vitor Manuel, at both Campomaiorense and Farense, and in total we were teammates for four years. He became one of my best friends.
I have known Vitinha since he was born and I care about him very much. Maybe I can say I'm like an uncle to him.
He is a wonderful man and I have nothing but nice things to say about him. He is a true role model for everyone: funny, kind-hearted and loved by all. His remarkable composure can also be seen reflected in his style of play.
