Prince Philip was a member of the British Royal Family and the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, with the title of Prince Consort.

Prince Philip was born in 1921 to Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark. His father was none other than the brother of the King of Greece. At the age of only 1 year, his uncle was removed from the throne, and his entire family was forced to flee the country. Prince Philip was transported in a fruit basket across the border.

After leaving Greece, Philip's father completely abandoned his family. Prince Andrew spent the rest of his life with his mistress, somewhere in the south of France. Philip got to see him very rarely, something that greatly affected his parenting style, failing to establish any close relationship with his children.

Left with his mother, even she could not give the child the stability and love he needed. Alice Battenberg, Queen Victoria's niece, was strikingly beautiful, but completely deaf. He had learned to hide his disability by learning to read lips in several languages. But another was her major problem.

He married Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. Just before the wedding, he was granted the titles of Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich, with the title of His Royal Highness. Philip left active military service when his wife became queen (1952), having risen to the rank of commander. He received the title of prince in 1957.

Philip and Elizabeth had four children together: Charles, Prince of Wales, the current King Charles III, Princess Anne of Great Britain, Andrew, Duke of York and Edward, Earl of Wessex.
