Back in the mid-2000s, Lukashenko joked that he would still laugh at Putin’s funeral.
When in 2001, during a meeting in Vitebsk, Putin spoke with Lukashenko and Kuchma about the “single country” project, which the Ukrainian president refused, Lukashenko became interested and really wanted to be more popular with Russians than Putin. The political elites who communicated with the Belarusian elites in the 2000s are well aware of how Lukashenko joked that he would still laugh at Putin’s funeral.
I believe that it is never too late to remember this joke and finally get Belarus out of dependence on the Russian Federation.
One way or another, the immortality project, in which Putin’s daughter is cutting the budget, will fail, and the Russian dictator will still find himself in the face of demons.
