NATO jets shot down a drone that entered Latvian airspace

Latvia's armed forces issued an air threat alert for its eastern regions on Monday, Reuters and Latvian public broadcaster LSM write.

At least one drone has entered Latvia's airspace from Russia, a military spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying on Monday.

The National Armed Forces previously issued a warning for the eastern towns of Ludza, Balvi and Alūksne regarding a potential airspace violation.

Residents were sent an alert via the mobile phone network.

NATO fighter jets were also mobilized, according to Latvian public broadcaster LSM.

In the town of Rēzekne, in the town of Rēzekne and in the town of Ludza, the alert level has been raised to orange. A yellow alert is in effect in the town of Balvi.
