Drivers were warned about a false alcohol test after drinking kvass and kefir

Kvass, kefir and non-alcoholic beer can give a false result when testing a driver for alcohol. Psychiatrist-narcologist Anton Rudkovsky told Gazeta.Ru about this.
According to the specialist, even soft drinks can contain small amounts of alcohol, usually up to 0.5%. This dosage does not cause intoxication and does not worsen the reaction, but in some cases it can be briefly recorded by devices.
“After drinking kvass, kefir or non-alcoholic beer, you should wait 10-15 minutes before getting behind the wheel,” noted Anton Rudkovsky.
The doctor explained that after drinking fresh kvass or kefir, alcohol may be detectable in the exhaled air for a short time. This may create a controversial situation during the audit.
However, such drinks in themselves do not make a person drunk. A more noticeable accumulation of ethanol is theoretically possible only when consuming large volumes, for example several liters of kvass.
