AfD organizes a rally near the former concentration camp. A wave of outrage

Numerous initiatives from southern Lower Saxony intend to organize a demonstration and street festival to protest against the meeting of the AfD district branch in Northeim, which is to be held in the immediate vicinity of the Moringen concentration camp memorial site.
The AfD meeting is scheduled for June 19 at the municipal hall in Moringen, as announced by the chairman of the Association of Former Prisoners and the Moringen Concentration Camp Memorial, Stefan von Huene. — 10 m from the site of the former concentration camp and 30 m from the memorial site, he emphasized.
In Moringen, from 1933 to 1945, on the premises of a former psychiatric hospital, there were three camps: for men, for women and for children and adolescents.
— We do not intend to tolerate a situation in which an extreme right-wing party violates the dignity of the victims of Nazism by organizing its event, Huene said. — If the AfD had acted this way, for example at the Buchenwald memorial site, it would have caused a scandal throughout the country, he stressed.
The city of Moringen and the AfD have not yet confirmed the place and date of the party congress. However, a spokeswoman for the city authorities noted in response to an inquiry that parties with a permit can, in principle, rent the city hall.
Huene said the street festival scheduled for June 19 is supported, among others, by several alliances against the far right, the evangelical parish in Moringen and the Federation of German Trade Unions (DGB). The festival organizers expect about 1,000 participants. The demonstration against the district congress of the AfD party was also reported by the organization “Grandmothers against the extreme right”.
