According to the announced schedule, Tomac will have the first meeting at 11:00 a.m. with PNL representatives, followed by discussions at 2:00 p.m. with the USR delegation, and at 5:00 p.m. with PSD representatives.

The consultations will take place at the headquarters of the political formations, and after each round of discussions the designated prime minister will make press statements.

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, signed on Friday, June 5, 2026, the decree appointing Eugen Tomac for the position of Prime Minister. The head of state argued that he opted for a prime minister independent of the parliamentary parties, citing the need for political dialogue and building a consensus.

Nicușor Dan also emphasized the importance of political and economic stability, the continuation of the pro-Western course, the implementation of reforms from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the modernization of public administration.

For his part, Eugen Tomac stated that he deals with this mission with “honor and responsibility”stating that he proposes the formation of an Executive made up of specialists and the regaining of public trust in state institutions.

“This appointment to form the future government of Romania is an honor and a responsibility. I receive your trust with gratitude and with all the citizens of Romania in mind. I fully understand the difficult context we are going through. I know the expectations of the Romanians and I am aware of the challenges we must overcome together. My vision is clear: Romania is in a moment that demands, above all, responsibility. This is the only way we can give Romania the clear direction we need“, Tomac said.

In order to be sworn in, the prime minister-designate must present the government program and the list of ministers to Parliament, obtaining at least 233 favorable votes. In case of validation, he will have to give up his MEP mandate.

Until the installation of the new Executive, the Government led by Ilie Bolojan continues its activity in an interim regime.
