We are used to not trusting beautiful travel photographs. Too often, reality turns out to be more modest than advertising brochures and processed photographs. But sometimes the opposite happens. There are places where the camera is unable to convey the scale of the landscape, the color of the water, or the sense of space.
The paradox of modern travel is that the Internet has shown us almost the whole world. It seems like before the trip we had already seen every street, every beach and every sunset.
Places that don't fit in the frame
For example, the Lago-Naki plateau in Adygea. In the photographs they are just green hills. In reality, endless mountain expanses open up before a person, where the horizon seems to dissolve into the clouds.
Altai makes a similar impression. Even the highest quality photographs are not able to convey the color of the Katun, the scale of the Chuya tract or the feeling of absolute silence among the mountains.
Beauty that can't be photographed
Some places impress not only with their views, but also with their atmosphere.
Teriberka on the shores of the Barents Sea looks harsh even in professional photographs. However, once there, travelers often talk about something else: an extraordinary feeling of freedom. The endless ocean, the north wind and the absence of city bustle create emotions that cannot be conveyed through the screen.
A similar story is happening on the Kuril Islands. The photographs show volcanoes, cliffs and the ocean. But they do not convey the smell of sea air, the sound of the surf and the feeling of being at the end of the world.
No camera can convey the depth of the starry sky over Lake Baikal, the color of the sunset light on the rocks of Karadag, or the feeling when you first see the Pacific Ocean from a high seaside cliff.
This is why some trips are remembered for years. Not because the place turned out to be the same as in the photographs, but because it turned out to be much larger, brighter and more lively, writes the Russian Union of Tourism Industry.
